Winner Announced! The Webdesigntuts+ Flickr Group Launch Contest

Winner Announced! The votes are all in now, and Adam Rotman of Capital Design Solutions (in collaboration with LMA Communication) has won the most votes with his Niagara Winery design. Check out the full featured post here! Thanks to everyone who participated… don’t forget to join the Flickr Group as we’ll be doing more of these contests in the future… it’s an easy and fun way to get your work promoted!

Finalists:

Missed this Contest?

Don’t worry if you missed your chance to enter something for this contest – We’ll be having lots more of these competitions and this is just the launch party for the Flickr Group. To join up, add the Webdesigntuts+ Flickr Group to your Flickr profile, and then upload/add your own web designs to the group.

Don’t forget to subscribe to Webdesigntuts+ from the top-right of our site to receive updates on articles, tutorials, and other great contests.

Original Contest Announcement:

(Entries Closed on Nov 10th, Vote Above!)

I mentioned in the recent post about getting feedback that joining community groups is a great way to participate in the community and get comments on your work from other designers. Well, in an effort to put some of that talk into real action, I’m excited to announce our official Flickr Group! The purpose of this group is threefold:

  1. To provide a place where web designers can share their work and get feedback.
  2. To find great talent from around the world to showcase here on Webdesigntuts.
  3. To provide a way for our reader’s to increase their own portfolio’s exposure.

So, without further delay, here are the contest details:

The Prize:

Your very own “feature” post on the site, complete with a bio, a short interview, and a showcase of your portfolio for all the world to see! We’re on track for over 300,000 visits for this month alone, so you won’t want to miss out on a chance to showcase your talents to the world!

How Do I Enter?

Easy! Just add the Webdesigntuts+ Flickr Group to your Flickr profile, and then upload/add your own web designs to the group.

How Do I Win?

(Closed on Nov 10th, Vote Above!) Voting will be weighed in 2 ways: Community voting (75%) and Envato Team voting (25%). We’ll be combining the overall totals to determine the winner of the showcase contest! The criteria for the winning contributor is simple: the website design that showcases the best understanding of layout principles, visual hierarchy, and typography will win. We’ll also be taking into account any community discussion and buzz, so be sure to leave comments both here and at the group page!

Who Can Enter?

Anyone! You might be a new freelancer, an Envato™ Marketplace Author, or an established design studio – everyone is welcome. Site editors, managers, and other Envato™ staff won’t be considered for the winning selection, but they are invited to add their own work too. The more the merrier!

What Should I Enter?

Web Designs! Any type of web design will be considered with the following exceptions: no adult content, no violent content, nothing that you wouldn’t want your mother or little sister to see ;) Everything else is welcome to join the party.

What Happens To My Work If It Doesn’t Win?

All work submitted can stay on the official Flickr Group as long as you wish – all designs posted will be shown on the Webdesigntuts+ website along the sidebar and you retain full credit of your work. With lots of traffic coming through the site every day, this is a great way to boost your exposure, get feedback, and improve your work through dialogue with the community.

Update: I just wanted to let everyone know that, after just one day of being public, there are so many great entries that I’ll also be posting a regular “The Best of the Webdesigntuts+ Flickr Feed” post (most likely a monthly showcase article) that will allow more than one person to get some extra exposure. This doesn’t change the contest or anything, but there are just too many great designs to ignore and I can already tell it’s going to be hard to pick just one person (but do that I must)! More details to come – keep on posting!

Awesome idea Brandon. I’m not much of a designer but i’ll give it a try, i had some “design moments” in the past few months so i’ll try to finish up those designs i started working on and submit them.

Just one question, does it have to be a full website design (homepage, services, contact and other pages) or just homepage (or some other page) is enough?

    P.S. I don’t have a little sister, she’s older :)

A homepage is probably the best type of entry… people are welcome to submit whatever they like, but homepages are where the action is usually at :)

I don’t have a little sister either, but it sounded like a great way to make my point, haha!

  • http://connorcrosby.me Connor Crosby

Awesome idea, I am just a rookie so I don’t know if my designs are as great as the “big boys” out there :)

    • http://interacciondigital.net Ariel Mariani

Don’t worry, is your design, i you like it, post it!! take advantege of this, you can receive feedback from great designers, you will learn a lot from mistakes. Im waiting to see your portfolio, good luck!

Agreed! Thanks for the comments Ariel!

Great Brandon, it’s gonna be a good experience for many… this means a lot of exposure =)
I would post my stuff, but to be honest, I’m new to this, I’m 18 and haven’t study anything related to development nor design yet, plus, i’ve finished only one website in my life u.u
Still, I found this a great opportunity to learn from the rest, to see what people are working on, how things are changing in the website world. Hope seeing lots of good stuff, something I usually find on tutsplus.

That’s fine Lucas – I’m excited for this to be an opportunity for anyone who wants to participate – for everyone else, I hope you guys enjoy the show!

    nice for new designer,
I will follow and may be for learning :)

Great idea Brandon, I will be keeping an eye out for these posted designs. Cheers!

I might participate. But I think that this would be better and more interesting if we add new designs instead of old design we might have made before the contest.

Also, can we add more than one design without being “well” putting apart.

Anyway, nice idea, but still I think that if you want to give users a place to discuss design techniques, giving feedback’s, etc… a FORUM or COMMUNITY board would be the ultimate place to do that.

Really, by my experience a place with good designers helping each others to improve their designs (work in progress stuff) is a great way of “trading” knowledge, experience, and also a way of know other people that do the same and maybe create more friendship and a more concise web design community.

We’re all spreaded all over the places, we need a place for us. So my suggestion is to create a forum. :)

Great comments Eduardo – In the future we’ll probably encourage people to post new designs… but since we’re just launching right now, I’m excited to have people upload their best stuff so that the community can get to know each other. Either way, I appreciate the thoughts and I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone posts (so far it’s looking great!).

    Brandon,

I really liked your idea since the begging and I have added some of my creations….and I will add more pretty soon. Thanks for including one of my designs on this page… but it looks like the link is broken…:)

  • http://www.sociatic.com Kwame

Cool designs. Just joined the group. Will be submitting my design shortly. Brandon, I want to know what happens if one does not have many web design portfolios but rather, other graphic works? I haven’t been designing websites for long.

  • http://www.sociatic.com Kwame

I have added my design and I hope to win. Thanks for the opportunity Brandon :).

We used to have themed, monthly competitions at DesignersTalk.com

Created a lot of competition and participation.

We’ll be having quite a few competitions actually – once this one is closed, I’ll be firing up the next community event – a massive tournament style vote-off for font faces with a surprise ending :)

  • http://connorcrosby.me Connor Crosby

Well, that was a hard choice. Congratulations to all finalists and good luck!

  • w1sh

Btw, I would kill 2 or 3 people for a really detailed tutorial from the GHD design guys on how to make those beautiful, grungy church designs.

Another designer I’ve been stalking for a few years has a very similar style. http://andrewbradshaw.com/portfolio/category/web

I just have no idea where to even start, but that entire style flips me out.

Anyway, I voted for “Living Word”, but it looks like Orman is running away with this one (damn talented people!).

    Great stuff guys!

  • http://edumicro.deviantart.com Eduardo Santos

    Good luck people. :D

I’ll might had better designs to the gallery.

Niagara Winery: There are websites and then there are websites. The Niagara Winery is a work of art! Classy layout! I can almost taste the Wine! :) Outstanding!!!!!

    I voted for moon portfolio
but all designs are awesome :)

  • Sam

Anyone else notice that something weird is going on with Friday Media on the poll? How could he possibly be going up by such drastic percentages in a matter of minutes? Does this poll have any protection from him refreshing his IP address and continually voting for himself…? Cause that’s totally how this looks — not cool.

Thought this was a design contest…

    • http://themeforest.net/user/epicera/portfolio?ref=epicera Brandon Jones
      Author

Thanks for the note Sam – I’ll be going through the votes this weekend and flush any IP spoofing before any decisions get made :)

  • Billy the kid

    I suspect foul play

  • Sam

Well … this was just too easy. It took me all of 5 minutes to figure out how Friday Media is boosting his votes. All I did was open new windows in Google Chrome (incognito mode) and I can vote as many times as I want…This would explain his 10% increase in votes in less than 2 minutes.

Envato…Are you going to address this huge flaw in the contest at all? This is rather unfair to the other finalists in this contest.

Since the results are now officially skewed, this final results should go to the panel of judges and the voting should be negated. Just sayin…

As I mentioned in your other post, I can track all IP repeat votes and this will be clean up prior to the final tally :) It just happens to be a holiday so it’ll happen over the weekend :)

  • Machdown

Uhhhh did anyone else just notice that Friday Media went up like 9% in 2 minutes…How is that possible?

    • http://themeforest.net/user/epicera/portfolio?ref=epicera Brandon Jones
      Author

Yep – it’s just someone messing with the voting system, its trackable though so we’ll be cleaning up the vote count and washing any repeat IP addresses before the final count :)

  • Adam

I hope Millenium Studio project will win! It is the clearest and the most eye-catching, although the rest is very nice, too. People, vote on Millenium Studio!
