Preparing Your Mac for Mountain Lion

Apples next big operating system is set to release in the middle of this month and its likely that youll be one of the many users who are upgrading from Snow Leopard or Lion. Its not surprising, either, because there are a lot of great features in this update and its going to be the same price for users of either of the aforementioned versions. In light of that, why not update to version 10.8, Mountain Lion?

Easy Ways to Automate Your Mac’s Schedule

Your Mac comes with lots of ways to schedule tasks, but not all of it’s ready to go out of the box. Beyond automated maintenance, OS X has a lot going for it, but you have to put in a bit of elbow grease to get everything working how you want it and on your schedule.

How To Migrate All of Your Important Data To Your New Mac

We recently saw another WWDC come and go and despite little to no progress in the desktop area, the MacBooks all received nice upgrades. This means there’s a fresh crop of users transitioning to a brand new machine, a task which always brings with it a decent number of questions.

Should be “OS Tuts,” with heavy emphasis on Linux and Free BSD. All this Apple glorification needs a swift kick in the butt.

    • http://eichefam.net Paul

Agreed. The mobile site isn’t iOSTuts+, it’s MobileTuts+. Why then should there be a site dedicated only to Mac users? It’s a UNIX-based OS; why not gear more towards *NIX?

Hey Paul. Mobiletuts+ focuses on development for mobile platforms. Mactuts+ is focused on teaching people how to use their Mac better — not develop for it. We might focus on that in the future, but not right now.

    • Anthony

Seconded. Why alienate a large part of your viewing audience? Make it more broad, and cover all Operating Systems. I would sure like to know more about the Linux platform through the easy to follow tutorial methodologies that tuts+ employs.

      • Riccardo

Agree with LeDisappoint, Paul and Anthony. It would be better to cover all OS.

    • David

Above all, the tuts+ family of sites are a business. As a business, it makes absolute sense.

    waw thats so great… :D

  • http://sparque.me Sebastian

Agreed, this one should definitely be rethought. After all, there is only so much to say about being effective on a mac before it all turns into ads for “productivity” apps.

I think it’d be awesome to have a Mac Tuts+ site if it were teaching us how to actually develop applications for macs.

+1 on changing this to “OS Tuts+”

  • Joe

I personally use OSX, but I don’t see the point of mactuts especially not targeting development. Someone mentioned “as a business, it makes absolute sense”, leaving the majority out, I don’t think so.
Never mind good luck with it though, me not interested.

  • Pieter

I like it! I primarily use Windows 7 and now I can learn a few things about OS X.

Will there be any Hackintosh stuff?

    Great!!!! :D
