Choose Your Apps

Choose Your Apps

Two years ago we started a little side project to review and roundup apps. Being bloggers, a kick-ass WordPress setup was the natural way to go. My little brother threw in a great idea for a name, and we lucked out when a super talented blogger named David Appleyard showed up offering to run the project. Two years on and AppStorm has become a little powerhouse here at Envato, for Mac apps, Web apps, iPhone and iPad apps, and starting today, Windows and Android apps.

As an entrepreneur it’s really rewarding to watch our sites grow, and while I still get excited watching Tuts unfold or the marketplaces bloom, it’s the little sites that are the coolest for me. I think it’s because with the little sites it’s often not certain whether they will make it or not. That makes it all the more rewarding when they kick butt and take names.

So it’s with no small excitement that I get to announce that we’re adding two more AppStorm’s to the network in the new year for Android and Windows. And to whet your appetite David and his team have put together a great roundup of awesome apps for both.

Impresive collection of Mac apps !!!!
I’ve seen a couple, but none as complete as these ones. Especially the “mac apps for advanced users”, lot of apps I didn’t know about.

    Thank you !!!

Really disappointed with the selection of Windows Apps.

Perhaps a little elaboration could help out? Let them know what you think over on the Windows site and I’m sure they’ll appreciate any feedback :)

        Hey Brandon,

Most of my comments usually get ignored. You see that article sounds like it wasn’t written by a Windows user instead by a Mac user that is dual booting into Windows as well.

        1) Safari should not be on the list – they should have picked Chrome and Firefox. The reason for picking Safari is even worse:
For starters, it allows for web designers and developers to test their sites and web applications “against one of the most popular browsers” – used by Mac users.

I don’t think “used by Mac users” is going to save anyone if they claim Safari is one of the most popular browsers. There are the top three and then there is Safari.

        2) iTunes – No windows user enjoys the pathetically coded iTunes for Windows. It is used only as a necessity for syncing their iDevices. If they wanted to include a free music app for windows they
should have picked Zune. Great interface, Great integration, Stable, Zune pass…etc

        3) Some of the programs appear to be running in Windows XP? I thought this list was for Windows 7.

        4) You will find that Teamviewer is more popular than LogMeIn

        5) Microsoft Security Essentials is a much better and free anti-virus solution

        6) While VLC is good they should have mentioned Klite Codec Pack

        7) Snow transformation pack – LOL WTF!

        8) Windows live Messenger deserves a mention above pidgin, digsby and whatnot. I think they have 200million+ users?

Anyway this list could go on and on. We really need some PC users to be writing this instead of what seems to be a Mac user dual booting into Windows.
