This is Your Captain Speaking

This is Your Captain Speaking

I’m going to break this to you bluntly – Brandon’s left. Don’t take it personally, I’m sure he doesn’t prefer Wptuts+ to you, these things just happen.

Allow me to introduce myself: my name’s Ian and I’ll be at the controls of Webdesigntuts+ from now on!

I’ve been loitering the Envato corridors for a couple of years in one form or another; firstly as a staff writer at Vectortuts+, then as Editor of Activetuts+. You may also have seen some of my random contributions such as the recent Tuts+ Bundle, the Remote Staff Infographic and the Tuts+ caricatures.

You can check out more of what I get up to on my site snaptin.com.

Me in a Nutshell

  • My name’s Ian (you can call me Ian)
  • I was born in sunny Yorkshire, England, just as Duran Duran were forming..
  • I studied Graphic Design in Nottingham, England (though I’m still not sure it was entirely the best route to go)
  • I live in France
  • I have two little girls aged 6 and 3
  • My good wife is Dutch
  • Give me a Mac over a PC any day
  • Give me the great outdoors over a Mac any day

My name's Ian Yates

The Future’s Bright

I’m really excited about looking after Webdesigntuts+! It’s a great site, has a great community behind it and has huge potential. I’m already working on a few changes but I’m all ears. If you have anything you’d like to see on the site, be it a subject, a specific tutorial, a new post format, a guest writer, whatever – I want to hear about it! Feel free to throw a comment up on our Facebook page, or tweet @envatowebdesign!

Thanks for listening. Fasten your seatbelts please.

Hey welcome Captain!! I hope the same as our fellows above commented!!

I love this site (as a matter of fact, as soon as webdesigntuts was launched and posts came in pouring, psdtuts+ was left behind to no.2 as my favorite site in the tuts+ network :D ).

I’d love to see more of the HTML5 and CSS3 things here (yes, they are in nettuts+ but I’d love them here lot better) and Interviews and biographies of Masters in this field or their workflow!

      Hi Kanchan,

Thanks for your thoughts! You’re right about HTML5 and CSS3 often appearing on Nettuts+ and the likelihood is they will continue to do so. There’s always going to be a bit of cross-over between Nettuts+, Webdesigntuts+ and Wptuts+, but that isn’t a problem. HTML5 and CSS3, from a web designer’s perspective, are definitely on the agenda here :)

Brandon’s still around, he’s behind the wheel of the recently launched Wptuts+ (WordPress tuts) and you can expect plenty of collaboration tutorials between us.

Together Nettuts+, Webdesigntuts+ and Wptuts+ will cover all your web-learning needs!

      • kankuro

I would like to see real world web design layout tutorials in Fireworks, by a proficient real world designer. I’m sure Tom Green is a great guy, but he and I don’t do the same thing every day. I started using Fireworks many years ago, and moved to Photoshop, and just don’t know how to do all my Photoshop tricks in FW. There would be a lot of benefits, but it would take me twice as long or more. I’d love to do a couple complete site design tutorials to break through that wall.

I’d love to see more and more begginer level stuff / full sites walk thru.
I am an art director to be, and I still don’t know if I want to focus on digital or not, and this site is really helping me with some of the digital parts of it <3

  • Lukas

If your wife is Dutch, does that mean you can speak Dutch too?
And what other languages do you speak? Just curious.. :)

    • http://www.snaptin.com Ian Yates
      Author

Hi Lukas :) I speak Dutch (having lived for 4 years in Rotterdam), my Spanish (I spent 6 years in Spain) is OK but not as good as my Dutch, and I’ve just moved to France though don’t yet speak a word of French.

And no, I don’t have gypsy blood in me..

      • http://www.gentlemedia.nl Ralph Echter

Ah nice… Rotterdam. My hometown, but living now for 3 years already on Rhodes, Greece.

Anyways… sorry for the belated welcome, but here you go… Welkom!!! :)
