Tuts+ Wants You: We’re Looking for Fireworks Pros

Calling all Fireworks gurus! We publish regular content from authors all over the world and on a huge variety of topics within the web design industry. One area I feel we could make more of is Adobe Fireworks – do you have wisdom to share?

Adobe Fireworks

Whether we’re talking wireframing or pixel-perfect final concepts, web designers will often reach for Photoshop to do the job. But Photoshop was never conceived as a design tool, and it’s effectively had to catch up in terms of features to keep designers happy. Fireworks, on the other hand, was always intended for multimedia design layout.

I’m not particularly interested in a vs. debate, but I am interested in properly exploring the capabilities of Fireworks. Do you know Fireworks in and out? Can you teach others how to speed up their workflow and boost their creativity? This is a paid gig; throw some ideas my way and we’ll talk dollars!

Excellent! Where do I Sign Up?

Great! I’d love to see some FW Tutorials. I started using it when it was still a Macromedia App and I’m so happy that I didn’t try Photoshop first ;)

  • Matheus

Yes! I’m so glad you guys are doing this… can’t wait to see great FW tuts!

am i the only one who start webdesigning with illustrator?. Fireworks tutorial huh?. Bring them on, i never understood why there are not many tutorial in using fireworks here in webdesigntuts, the only reason that i see tha people often use photoshop that fireworks is the ability of the community to give easy modifiable Psd files and photoshop ability to manipulate pixel.

    Sent!

I only use Fireworks. It’s the tool for the job.

I will show you my ways young padawans…

  • dix_huit

Great news. Looking forward to seeing some Fireworks articles. May even send you an email myself…

Can’t wait for more Fireworks tutorials – it’s been my main tool from the beginning, and simply because it does the basics very quickly.
Fireworks cops some criticism – but to those who criticize I say – draw a square with a border, write some text, now move both layers individually. That very simple example will take twice as many clicks in PS.

  • dini

Yes fireworks its the best…..Its so quicker than photoshop.

  • Kristian Payne

Yup… I really agree on that.

Fireworks is far the fastes tool to do webdesigns – in a way that is both quicker and smarter!

And to all the PhotoShop fans out there, – yes I also do Photoshop, and have made tons of designs there… and my conclusion is that fireworks is the tool – but for serious image-editing, photoshop is to be used.

And then just a small tip-thing… “If u hate the huge photoshop-files you are working within – use fireworks” ;OD

    For glory…

Hmm – this should have been automatically pumped out on Twitter – I’ll look into it, thanks!

YAY!! I can’t wait for some decent tut’s on FW.
I’ve been using FW since Macromedia days and as much as I’ve tried to find an alternative since it seemed like Adobe was phasing it out, there just is NO other program that comes close! Photoshop would be my last choice for webdesign layout, I would go for Xara or Corel over PS but Fireworks is by far supreme in webdesign.

    Why is it over looked?

Fireworks is a natural for all interested in Web Design or Photo and Text Editing. Be you a beginner or a well seasoned vet, Fireworks has stood the test of time, so much so that instead of deleting the program, Adobe decided to keep it a part of the Web Series when they purchased Macromedia.

I have used Fireworks since the old Macromedia days, and have upgraded the program several times since then. If there was only one reason to own this program, it would be the Rapid Prototyping feature. This alone is worth its weight in GOLD! Rapid Prototyping can reduce the time it takes a Web Designer to create the look and feel of a site for a client. Make your whole Web site in one single PNG file and then export an interactive Web site to present to your client. Make your changes on the fly, if you wish, and then return to your office to create the finished site. Cool only begins to describe Fireworks!

I cannot wait to get some fireworks tuts.

I’d love to see some FW tutorials. Any chance of a “30 days to learn FW” tutorial series?

You’ll be pleased to know we have something along those lines in the works :)

  • Robin

I just wanted to show my support for Fireworks tutorials. It’s such a practical tool for screen design.

I would love to see some real Fireworks techniques being taught like in the “Photoshop Techniques for Web Designers” title. Please don’t make just a series on how to navigate the interface.

    • http://www.snaptin.com Ian Yates

Very valid point Robin – we will be covering the interface to some degree (it’s pretty fundamental after all) but we’ll definitely emphasize real-world workflow and techniques. Thanks!

      • Robin

That is good to know :) I think this is the advantage your tutorial site has over other big video tutorial sites.

I don’t want just to learn about how I can apply the default ugly patterns to a blank canvas etc. I want to see a pro who uses Fireworks for a living tell me all his pro tips.
