Community Project: Data Table Results!

We’re gradually getting more challenging with these community projects – still, many of you grabbed the bull by the horns and threw your best CSS at our simple data table – take a look..

The Challenge

I asked you all to style this simple markup..

<table>
    <thead>
        <tr>
            <th>Name</th>
            <th>Age</th>
            <th>Weight (kg)</th>
            <th>Profession</th>
        </tr>
    </thead>
    <tbody>
        <tr>
            <td>Carolina Biggleswade</td>
            <td>23</td>
            <td>65</td>
            <td>Jockey</td>
        </tr>
        <tr>
            <td>Harry Sparrowhead</td>
            <td>34</td>
            <td>89</td>
            <td>Trainer</td>
        </tr>
        <tr>
            <td>Marjorie Doors</td>
            <td>32</td>
            <td>76</td>
            <td>Yard Manager</td>
        </tr>
        <tr>
            <td>Earnest Piggington-Smithe</td>
            <td>18</td>
            <td>98</td>
            <td>Groom</td>
        </tr>
    </tbody>
</table>

..using whatever magic you could muster with CSS alone. Here are the results!

A Couple of Examples

You’re welcome to continue submitting ideas for this, but there’ll be another challenge coming soon. In the meantime, check out a few of the submissions which most caught my eye:

    Futuristic is pretty rad.

    Love th Chalkboard. Well done!

  • Michelle

    Yes, I have to agree that Futuristic is really awesome. I found Metro prettying interesting as well, but they were all really well done. Thanks for sharing!

    The chalkboard one is very creative. Metro sample is well done also. The one that stands out for me is Futuristic. Not because of the split and animated aspects, but for the way the elements were styled to look like a contact card rather than a table row. Very clever!

    The metro one is amazin , if only i did’nt hate widows 8.

  • Greg

  • http://digiartes.net Juan

    I Love Futuristic and Metro, awesome. Bold is not bad at all either…

  • Hamid

    thumps up if you’re agree with me on “Metro”!, nice job 1pxstory.

  • Marco

    Argh. I knew this was going to happen..
    As the results are presented in the way they are, my responsive stable-table is not working as it should. =(

    However, nice work there everyone! The crisp one is my favorite. =)

      Looks okay to me Marco (?) Text shrinks down along with the viewport width… I think that’s how it should be behaving. Let me know if you need me to change anything specific!

    Hell yeah !

    Metro is pretty cool !

    Why not a simple menu for the next community project ? :D I love inspiration

  • begs

    I really do like the idea behind Dark Blur. A little bit of prettier styling and this one is reallly good!

  • dona

    i love the metro one and the simplicity never kills .

  • Akuseru

    Wonder why nobody make something like this:

    —+————–+—-
    | WEIGHT |
    —+————–+—-
    | 23kg |
    —+————–+—-

    It would be far easy with pseudo-elements…

    And you may use a trick (or two) for editing the th (WEIGHT (kg)).

    I’m not able to see the “Futuristic” table that has been referenced by several of you. Is it just me?
