The big sellers of the theme world tend to be very customisable, feature-packed, multipurpose themes. They’re crammed with options to help users tailor their websites, but what if a website owner’s needs are more straight-forward than that? In this roundup we’ll look at a collection of themes, for a range of platforms, which target a specific niche.
Billed as a “one-stop grocery shop”, Foodly is a highly stylised Shopify theme available on Envato Elements. It’s fresh and clean, which is ideal for showing off images of food products, and comes with all kinds of features such as:
- Nutritional value section
Listify is a hugely capable WordPress directory theme. It presents listings in a very modern and familiar environment, allowing for search on location, ratings, keywords, and is perfect for listings of any kind.
It’s very extendable too; allowing you to bolt on a number of WooCommerce plugins (which you’ll need to purchase) to build a very powerful directory with faceted search, subscriptions, listing claims, the list really does go on.
Listify has sold over 10,000 licenses to date, and is available on Themeforest for $69.
Based on the Ignitiondeck platform, Backer is a crowdfunding theme for WordPress. The limited version of Ignitiondeck is free, but licenses are available depending on the degree of sophistication you need your fundraising website to have.
Its classically designed project pages are lovely, and if you’ve ever read Kafka’s Metamorphosis you’ll enjoy the filler text on the demo:
Stepping away from niche functionality, Bougenville gives us a niche aesthetic instead. It’s a “beautiful and casual blogging theme” for Tumblr and comes as part of your Envato Elements subscription.
It’s one of a number of themes by TMint, who specialise in stylish and uncomplicated blog themes.
So far we’ve had Shopify, WordPress, and Tumblr–now it’s time for some Joomla. “It's Me” is about presenting yourself as best as possible; a portfolio site with personality.
TownPress is about as niche as it gets; in fact, it was runner up in the Micro Niche Themes competition run by Envato a little while back! Built to be used with WordPress, by municipalities, this theme is perfect for anyone looking for a no-nonsense town portal.
It comes with all kinds of features local residents will be expecting:
- local weather widget
- upcoming events
- town documents
- forums (through bbPress)
Bellevue is a Hotel and Bed & Breakfast booking theme for WordPress. It comes with a variety of layout options, so whether you’re looking for a website to represent a small chambre d’hôtes, or a Grand Hotel, this theme will have you covered.
Available from Themeforest for $59 it comes packaged with the WP Booking System plugin (which in itself costs $34) and supports secure payments thanks to WooCommerce. Booking and calendar capabilities are too numerous to get into here–go and check out the features listed on the item page.
HelpingHands is a non-profit WordPress theme (by which I mean it’s aimed at non-profits) and is ideal for charity or fundraising organisations. Collect donations by means of PayPal or other gateways, and watch your goals met by way of a sliding scale on the cause page.
So there you go–next time you’re looking for a theme, instead of reaching for a massively customisable beast you may find there’s one catered perfectly to your niche needs!
