Form validation can be a tedious process if you opt to do it all yourself. Fortunately for us, however, we don’t have to. In this course, Craig Campbell will demonstrate how the Parsley JavaScript library can do all of the heavy lifting for you when it comes to validating forms.

1. Introduction

1.1 Introduction

Hello and welcome to form validation with Parsley. Validating forms in HTML can be a very tedious process if you try to do it manually. Thankfully however, we have JavaScript libraries like Parsley that allow us to validate our forms very quickly and very easily. So in this course, I'm gonna show you just how easy it is to perform numerous different types of validation on our forms, without having to type very much JavaScript's code at all. Now I'm going to assume that you have at least a basic knowledge of HTML and CSS, and at least an introduction to JavaScript. And with that said, we'll get started in the next lesson.

1.2 What Is Parsley?

Hello and welcome back. In this lesson I wanna give you a quick introduction to the Parsley framework, or library. And Parsley is basically just a form validation library. It makes it easier to validate your forms, which can be a very tedious process when done manually. But thankfully we have libraries like Parsley which allow us to do most form validation that we need with little to no JavaScript. You can actually validate an entire form in Parsley. Without writing any of your own Javascript. It is a Javascript library but we can get away with just using data attributes on our input fields, in order to force validation of that form. And we'll talk about how to do that in the next few videos but first I just wanted to show you the Parsley Javascript website which you can find at parsleyjs.org. So here's where you're gonna find all of your information, you'll find some examples and some documentation here. You'll see this big green get started today link here in the middle of the page. And then that'll take you right over to the documentation. So you can scroll through the documentation and get a good idea of how this framework works. Now, some of this documentation I will go ahead and put this out there, is a little bit difficult to follow, some of the description aren't very helpful. But, hopefully as we go through this course you'll find out, that this really is an easy library to use. So you'll also notice this second tab here for examples. We can click on any of these examples to see the Parsley framework in action. So you can learn a lot from these examples as well as from the documentation. And this third link here is our download link and we're actually going to be using a CDN link in this course. So we don't actually have to download it for this particular tutorial. But, if you'd like to download it, this is where you can do it.. So as always, I want to encourage you to get familiar with the website especially the documentation section. Like I said, there are some sections, for the most parts it's well written and you can follow along really easily. But, there are some sections where you might need to read over it a couple times, in order to figure out what it's saying. So, let's go ahead and move on with the next lesson, where we'll actually pull the Parsley JS framework into our HTML, so that we can set it up and get it working. Thank you for watching and I'll see you then.
